CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing significant improvements in camera technology, performance, and battery capacity. Both devices incorporate a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with an adjustable aperture. They are powered by the new A20 Pro chip and feature an upgraded vapor chamber cooling system. The redesigned Dynamic Island now displays more information. Preorders start on September 12, with sales beginning September 18 across over 65 countries and regions.

The Main camera employs six laser-cut blades to switch among four aperture options, giving users control over depth of field and light intake via the Camera app. Pro controls include manual adjustments for shutter speed and white balance, while a histogram helps monitor exposure before capturing photos or videos. Photographic Styles now offer controls for texture and grain, and the phones support Cinematic effects on videos recorded at up to 60 frames per second.
Apple’s Reference Image feature introduces a new way to verify if photos have been altered after capture. When taking a picture with the Main camera, signed sensor data is recorded in Reference mode, and Private Cloud Compute processes this into a reference image. Users can compare this with the main photo within the Photos app. Apple also plans to add support for SynthID later in 2026, with image metadata providing an additional method for identifying AI-generated or edited content.
Variable aperture enhances camera flexibility
Powered by the 2-nanometer A20 Pro, the chip combines a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU, which Apple claims is up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. It also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine totaling 32 cores. A redesigned thermal system connects the processor more efficiently to a larger vapor chamber, which has three times the surface area of the previous generation. Apple states this setup improves sustained performance during intensive tasks.
Battery life has been extended on both models, especially on eSIM-only versions. The iPhone 18 Pro supports up to 36 hours of video playback, while the Pro Max reaches 45 hours under similar conditions. Wired accessories can charge the Pro to 50% in about 15 minutes. The eSIM-only models replace the physical SIM tray and will be released in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
Siri AI debuts with iOS 27
Running on iOS 27, the iPhone 18 Pro series supports the latest Apple AI features. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices configured in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support arriving in October. Siri AI can leverage personal context from messages, emails, and photos when responding to requests and can also interpret information displayed on the screen. Cloud-based tasks utilize Private Cloud Compute, while other functionalities operate locally on the device.
The starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro in the United States is $1,199, and $1,299 for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Users can select storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Finishes include black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12, with retail sales beginning September 18 in the initial markets, followed by an additional 20 countries and regions on September 25.
