CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has launched the iPhone Duo, its inaugural foldable model, with U.S. prices starting at $1,999. Revealed on Sept. 9 at its Cupertino headquarters, the device was introduced by Apple CEO John Ternus as part of the latest hardware lineup. Preorders will begin on Oct. 16 across more than 70 countries and regions, and the first units are expected to reach consumers and stores on Oct. 23.

Designed in a book-style form factor, the iPhone Duo features two Super Retina XDR displays. When closed, a 5.4-inch screen handles everyday phone functions, while opening the device reveals a 7.6-inch inner display suitable for videos, apps, gaming, and multitasking. The device’s chassis is crafted from Grade 5 titanium, with a hinge composed of over 100 components. It also bears an IP68 certification for splash, water, and dust resistance.
To optimize the larger folding display, Apple has tailored its mobile software. The iOS 27.1 update includes features specific to this new format, such as dual app placement and the ability to save frequently used app combinations. The open phone can display two Home Screen pages simultaneously, while Touch ID integrated into the side button offers biometric authentication regardless of the device’s configuration.
Foldable Screen Enhances Multitasking and Camera Capabilities
The rear camera setup comprises a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera and a 48-megapixel Fusion Ultra Wide camera. The main camera offers an optical 2x telephoto option and supports zero shutter lag. Users can preview selfies taken with the rear camera on the external display before capturing. Duo Preview enables subjects to see their framing while another person controls the camera. The main camera can record 4K video at up to 120 frames per second with Dolby Vision.
Powering the foldable iPhone is Apple’s A20 Pro processor along with a dual-battery system. A custom vapor chamber helps manage heat during intensive tasks. Apple states that video playback can last up to 31 hours on the inner display, increasing to 44 hours when using the outer screen. The device supports fast wired and wireless charging, and includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity options.
Pricing and Global Launch Schedule Cover Over 70 Countries
The iPhone Duo will be available with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB, with color choices of star white and night sky finishes. In the United States, the starting price is $1,999, while in the UAE it is AED 8,499. After the initial launch on Oct. 23 following preorders opening a week earlier, Apple plans to extend sales to an additional 28 countries and regions on Oct. 30. The device also adopts an eSIM-only design globally.
By introducing the iPhone Duo, Apple enters the mature foldable smartphone arena with its unique hardware and software approach. The device combines a compact external display with the largest foldable screen Apple has included on an iPhone, integrating Apple’s processors, cameras, connectivity features, and mobile operating system into a foldable form. Customers will see the first units approximately six weeks after the September announcement, marking the official market debut of Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
