    Eurozone Manufacturing Stagnates While Overall EU Output Edges Up 0.2%

    BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / RankWire.AI / – Eurostat reports that industrial activity within the euro area remained flat in June 2026 compared to May. Meanwhile, production across the European Union increased by 0.2%. These figures, seasonally adjusted, follow a 0.3% monthly growth in both regions during May. Year-over-year, June saw a 0.1% rise in euro area output and a 0.6% increase across the EU. The latest data shows varied trends across key industrial sectors and member states. The report covers industry excluding construction, utilizing adjusted data for monthly comparisons.

    In the eurozone, non-durable consumer goods led the monthly gains with a 3.0% rise. Energy output grew 1.5%, and durable consumer goods increased 0.3%. Conversely, capital goods production fell 1.4%, and intermediate goods declined 0.8%. As a result, the overall industrial production index remained steady at 98.7, with May’s figures at the same level on a base of 100 for 2021. In May, non-durable consumer goods had risen 3.3%, energy increased 2.6%, and capital goods expanded 0.5%.

    Across the EU, non-durable consumer goods production rose 2.5% in June, with energy output up 1.0%. Durable consumer goods grew 0.9%, but capital goods fell 0.9%. Intermediate goods output declined 0.7% compared to May. The EU industrial production index increased to 101.0 in June from 100.8 in May. Since January, when it stood at 99.2, the index has seen five consecutive monthly increases through June.

    Significant Monthly Variations Among Member States

    Denmark experienced the highest monthly rise among EU nations with available data, increasing 5.4% in June. Croatia was close behind, with a 5.2% gain, while Lithuania and Finland each expanded by 2.1%. Luxembourg saw the steepest monthly decline, falling 10.7%. Portugal and Estonia followed, with decreases of 3.9% and 2.2%, respectively. Germany saw a modest 0.2% increase; France’s industrial output remained unchanged. Italy declined 1.0%, and Spain decreased by 0.7%. Ireland grew 2.0%, the Netherlands fell 1.7%, and Slovenia declined 2.0%.

    On an annual basis, euro-area industrial production rose 0.1% in June. Intermediate goods increased 0.4%, energy by 0.9%, and capital goods by 0.1%. In contrast, durable consumer goods declined 2.5%, and non-durable consumer goods decreased 0.5%. Across the EU, total production grew 0.6% from June 2025. Intermediate goods were up 1.0%, energy increased 0.3%, and capital goods gained 0.9%, while both consumer categories declined.

    Lithuania Shows Leading Annual Growth Among Member States

    Lithuania recorded the highest annual growth rate among countries with available data, with a 7.7% increase. Denmark followed at 6.1%, and Poland achieved a 4.9% rise. Finland increased 4.6%, Hungary rose 4.1%, and Czechia gained 4.0%. Luxembourg experienced the largest annual decline, falling 7.9%, with Romania decreasing 5.6% and Estonia dropping 4.6%. Germany and France each declined by 0.5%, Italy fell 0.6%, and Spain saw a 1.0% increase compared with June 2025.

    Eurostat also revised its industrial production estimates for May, adjusting figures released on July 15. The euro-area monthly change was revised from a 0.2% decline to a 0.3% increase. The EU’s monthly figure shifted from a 0.1% fall to a 0.3% gain. The annual May output was updated to reflect a 0.1% decline in the euro area and a 0.6% increase for the EU. Eurostat bases its regional series on seasonally adjusted national data and estimates missing recent observations when compiling these figures.
