STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – Official data revealed that Sweden’s industrial output declined by 1.5% in June compared to the previous year. After seasonal adjustment, production also fell by 0.4% from May, indicating a weaker month for the nation’s manufacturing sector. Statistics Sweden presented these figures in its June Production Value Index report. The industrial index registered at 112.4, lower than 112.9 in May, with 2021 as the base reference of 100.

This annual decrease followed a revised 7.6% growth in May. Manufacturing output went down 1.0% from June 2025, while mining and quarrying saw a sharp 13.8% drop. On a monthly basis, manufacturing decreased by 0.4%, and mining and quarrying fell by 3.3%. Industry represented 20.2% of the overall private-sector measure for 2025, with manufacturing constituting 19.4 percentage points of that share, making it the primary industrial segment.
Despite June’s decline, gains from the second quarter remained intact. Average industrial output from April to June was 4.0% higher than the same period in 2025. Seasonally adjusted industrial production also increased by 4.8% from the previous three months. Sweden’s broader private-sector output grew 0.4% from May and 1.8% year-over-year. This comprehensive measure includes industry, services, construction, and selected utility activities.
Industry shows weakness amid overall production growth
Services output declined 0.2% from May but increased 3.0% compared to June 2025. Construction sector output rose 2.0% month-on-month and 7.6% year-over-year. The services index stood at 111.9 in June, down slightly from 112.1 in May. Construction increased to 94.9 from 93.0. Services accounted for 67.2% of the broader measure, with construction making up 8.4%.
Separate June data from Statistics Sweden indicated that total industrial orders jumped 32.3% from May after seasonal adjustment. Orders also increased 29.9% from June 2025 on a calendar basis. Export orders surged 56.5% month-on-month and 57.6% year-over-year. Domestic orders saw a slight 0.1% increase from May but fell 7.4% annually. From January to June, total orders were up 4.0% over the same period in 2025, while export orders rose 6.6%.
Exports climb amid declining domestic orders
Transport equipment experienced the largest increase among key order categories in June, rising 101.0% from May and 118.2% from the previous year. Manufacturing orders grew 33.2% month-on-month and 31.2% annually. Orders for capital goods increased 45.5% from May and 50.7% from June 2025. Conversely, mining and quarrying orders fell 1.8% monthly and 19.0% annually.
The reports on production and orders measure different aspects of industrial activity. The Production Value Index tracks monthly changes in private-sector goods and services production in constant prices, whereas the orders data reflect short-term variations in new industrial orders domestically and for exports. Future updates might revise these preliminary figures, with the next releases scheduled for Sept. 10 and covering July 2026.
