ATHENS, Greece / RankWire.AI / – The United Arab Emirates intends to inject another €15 billion into Greece through a collaborative investment plan between the two nations. This development was announced on October 22 during Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi,’s official visit to Athens. This fresh pledge builds upon a €4 billion initiative launched in May 2022, aiming to strengthen economic and strategic partnerships.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, this expansion will enhance cooperation in sectors deemed strategic and vital for both nations’ development. The initial agreement provided a framework for joint ventures in fields of shared interest, resulting in major transactions in energy and healthcare. Officials highlighted that these successes demonstrated the partnership’s potential to translate economic opportunities into real investments. The new €15 billion commitment expands that existing structure.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled held talks with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Prime Minister’s Office in Athens. Their discussions centered on increasing collaboration in energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and advanced technology, alongside regional and global issues. Both leaders emphasized the importance of bolstering security, peace, and stability. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis welcomed Sheikh Khaled upon his arrival at Athens International Airport, underscoring ongoing improvements in bilateral relations.
Strategic forum produces €12.75 billion in deals
The visit coincided with the UAE-Greece Strategic Forum held in Athens, where more than €12.75 billion worth of agreements and partnerships between UAE and Greek organizations were signed. These cover sectors like digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, industry, logistics, ports, healthcare, life sciences, and food security. These accords are separate from the €15 billion investment pledge. Mitsotakis attended alongside senior officials from both governments.
UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi noted that the agreements and the new investment plan reflect rising confidence between the two economies. He emphasized the need to convert this momentum into practical projects. Describing the UAE as a hub for trade, investment, and connectivity, he added that Greece serves as a gateway to Europe. Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis also participated in the forum.
Greece positioned as a strategic access point to European markets
The UAE’s decision underscores its trust in Greece’s economic capabilities and investment climate. The country’s strategic location and role as a bridge connecting European markets with regional and global economies are key factors. The expanded initiative is expected to foster closer cooperation between investment institutions and businesses, promoting innovation and knowledge exchange. Its goal is to create new investment opportunities.
This announcement aligns with the UAE’s broader strategy to forge long-term investment alliances across Europe. In September, the UAE unveiled a €40 billion investment package for Germany across various sectors. The country has also intensified negotiations with other European partners such as Italy. Officials indicated that Greece’s initiative marks the start of a new phase of collaboration, extending beyond mere financial commitments.
